Renewable Energy Project for Housing Authority in PA

Housing Authority in PA

Lime Energy designed and installed energy efficient geothermal heat pump systems to replace existing gas furnaces at a housing authority in Pennsylvania.

The project included new heating systems for seven 50+ year old facilities.

Lime provided complete turn-key systems and exceeded energy savings expectations.

SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Design, build, construct
  • Mechanical and electrical efficiency
  • Renewable energy project development and implementation

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Worked closely with customer to manage access due to resident occupancy
  • System was installed such that occupants had less than 8 hours without heating/cooling or hot water
  • Provided complete customer training to maintenance personnel
  • Solar hot water system now provides 75 percent of annual hot water demand
  • No safety incidents

DETAILS

Lime Energy’s solution involved drilling 110 geothermal wells in an urban environment.

To address the domestic hot water system, Lime analyzed the inefficient existing solar system and corrected the piping, along with replacing the DHW boilers with high efficiency equipment.

SCOPE OF WORK

  • Designed and engineered new geothermal heat pump systems for 8 sites
  • Drilled 300 ft. wells for the closed loop, ground-source heat exchangers for the heat pumps
  • Replaced 140 interior gas furnaces with new heat pumps, with new controls and condensate drains
  • Replaced 8 domestic hot water boilers and storage tanks
  • Analyzed and re-piped existing solar hot water system to provide correct operation
  • Provided startup and testing for all heat pumps, boilers, and solar hot water
