Lime Energy completed work totaling $14 million in energy efficient upgrades for the USPS directly within the last 3 years, with 30,497,083 kWh per year in projected energy savings, which equates to 104,086 mmBTUs per year. The work was completed under the USPS Energy Job Order Contract program, which provides new lighting and advanced lighting controls for client facilities across 11 states.
The Eastern Facilities Service Office projects involved 56 facilities ranging in size from 1,400 to just under 1 million square feet for a total of over 8.1 million square feet.
Lime also received the contract for the Southwest Facilities Service Office, which included 6 additional states. The most recent contracts for the Southwest are Indefinite Quantity Contracts and are in place for one year for a total of up to $19.8 million, with options to extend this work up to 60 months.
Lime Energy's award of these Energy Job Order Contracts for both the Eastern and Southwestern FSO’s was directly related to the experience achieved working for the USPS under an ESCO model. Prior to the Energy JOC award, Lime Energy had implemented lighting and lighting controls in 23 million square foot of USPS space with ESCO partners. The projects covered 12 states, had a project value at $34 Million, and saved an estimated 71 million kilowatt-hours per year.
In California alone, Lime Energy completed 12 million square feet, $17 million in construction value in Los Angeles to San Diego.
DETAILS
These projects included a high tech mix of equipment and controls to provide maximum energy savings. For example, several of the new lighting installations include the opportunity to control each light fixture and monitor energy use in real time over the internet.
Adding sensors and controls generally increases energy savings by 25% to 30%.
