At Lime Energy, our business model revolves around serving the community, starting with small and medium businesses. By partnering with business owners to improve their facility’s efficiency, we help them to reduce their energy costs and increase their profitability. In addition to working with small and medium businesses, we aim to improve communities through our Corporate Social Responsibility Program. From beautifying local schools to feeding the homeless, we look to incite change wherever possible. As we outline our goals for the upcoming year, we plan to grow our existing programs while educating our employees on the best way to give back.
In 2015, we launched a companywide effort to encourage volunteerism and community outreach. Our team members logged over 400 volunteer hours in the first year alone! To recap, our first volunteer initiative took place at the American Heart Association Heart Walk, where we raised over $10,000 to combat heart disease and stroke. Another effort occurred in Los Angeles, CA, where we teamed up with two organizations— the LA Conservation Corps and City Plants. Together we planted hundreds of trees in downtown Los Angeles, transforming many public spaces. Also, our NC sales team and our NJ accounting team helped families in need by volunteering their time at Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem in North Carolina and St. John’s Soup Kitchen, respectively. And in June of 2019, Newark employees partnered with the United Way of Essex & West Hudson for the Day of Action to revitalize a local park through various landscaping projects. From renovating parks to feeding the homeless, team members across the country took every opportunity to improve the communities they live and serve.
This year, our goal is to surpass the number of hours contributed in 2019. To help reach this target, we launched the volunteer platform, Your Cause. Through this platform, employees can share their experiences, research new opportunities, and collaborate with colleagues on upcoming projects. Our first planned event through Your Cause will take place on Earth Day 2020. As part of the event, members from our Newark headquarters will team up with the non-profit NJ Cares to assist with restoration projects in Branchburg Park NJ. We look forward to our future efforts through the platform and are excited about our potential impact.
At Lime, our mission is centralized around service, whether through energy efficiency upgrades or local activism. “Every day, Lime Energy employees help dozens of small businesses and communities across the country reduce their impact on the environment,” says Tony Coonce, Lime Energy’s AVP if Southern California. “This is our job, and this project is just one more way for us to support environmental sustainability and economic growth in the communities where we both live and work.” We have ambitious plans for 2020, and we look forward to exceeding these goals. The future is bright for Lime Energy, and we hope to expand the ways we can give back.
